The Lillian H. Smith Library, designed by Architect Phillip H. Carter, has been described as one of Toronto’s “most happily eccentric buildings.” Entro’s objective was to develop a family of signage products that could be effectively integrated into this environment, which has the feel of a medieval castle. The architectural imagery of the multi-storey dome-shaped facility was tied into the signage through the use of spherical forms, bronze materials, and complementary colours and graphics. Practical considerations were not sacrificed for aesthetics. The majority of signs use paper inserts, which allows for cost-effective in-house maintenance of wayfinding signage.
