Ongoing changes to Scarborough Hospital’s plan necessitated a comprehensive wayfinding program for the 470,000-square-foot facility. During the design process, Entro worked closely with the client to rename building wings to facilitate wayfinding. Because the hospital is located within a multicultural community, the wayfinding system incorporated three basic design elements – names, colours and icons – to make the signage accessible. Entro chose a bright colour palette and easily recognizable graphic icons (cloud, tree, sun and house) for each wing. In combination, these elements function not only to guide and identify but also to provide a lively visual environment for staff, visitors and patients.
