Wayfinding is the process of defining “path and place” as it pertains to three-dimensional space. Practically, it means creating a system that supports the user’s ability to navigate the built environment with signs, directories, charts, maps, landmarking, architectural treatments, etc. Beyond these tools, wayfinding systems support an intuitive understanding of space that extends the user’s perception of their environment by creating a sense of place, and establishing a culture.
